Dare!

The word I have chosen for my one little word for 2018, is Dare!

Dare-to have the necessary courage or boldness for something; be bold enough: to have boldness to try; venture; to meet defiently; face courageously 

 

I am so ready for this word! I already have things in the works for a Daring 2018, and am SO looking forward to even more opportunities to stretch and grow! In the words of the extraordinary Emily Dickenson

 

I dwell in possibility

 

We all have challenges daily-sometimes more than we feel we can handle. But we also have choice!

Choice -an act of selecting or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities.

Powerful!

So here we go 2018!!!

Pocket full of sunshine, anyone???

a dream come true!

A little over a month ago, I had a major dream come true.  I drew some designs and partnered with Scraps of Love and we had photopolymer clear stamps made! In less than 3 weeks we had sold out of our first order of 48 sets of 4 designs!!!! Crazy! We have reordered and I am proud to say, those are selling like crazy too! Chris and I taught a class, showcasing our stamps and some of the cool features and it sold out too! A friend who took that class, teaches at a charter school, that the Governor happened to be visiting the next day. She gave him one of the cards we created in class that night-and it was a perfect blend of Chris and Ann-Chris' card layout and my stamp design. Anyway, the Governor's office called her the next day to ask if they could purchase more of those cards, and to let her know that they had framed the card and it is hanging in Governor Doug Ducey's office! Thank you to each and every one who purchased a set or 4, took our class, shared those creations with someone special, shared your own creations with us, shared how you were going to use them-our hearts are bursting with pride and gratitude!

I loved being able to commemorate the launch of our stamps in my August planner layout! They are SO fun to color!

I created this festive southwest Christmas banner. My noggin just keeps thinking of new and cool ways to use them!!! I'll keep posting!

This weekend, Chris and I have been invited to do a make and take, showcasing our stamps at the Scrapbook Expo in Mesa. Nervous but SUPER excited, I am on my way now! It is sure to be a fantastic time! We have so many friends there to support us!

Let's Get Artsy with our Bibles

I absolutely LOVE teaching my 'Let's get Artsy with our Bibles' class at Scraps of Love, each month. The group that comes together, is the most kind, warm, and encouraging group.  A friend asked me to create an entry featuring Joshua 24:15.  'As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord'. Inspiration came from Danielle Donaldson's book-Creative Girl, her tall skinny houses are divine!!! I am hooked on them now-I've started to take pictures of cool architectural touches during my travels.

Let's get Artsy with our Bibles

 Hi, I am back! It has been a while since I have blogged-but I am going to just jump back in! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I have embraced Bible Journaling trend, like crazy!!! This journey has been extremely enlightening, rewarding and LOTS of fun!!! I am in love the process, the reinforcement and celebration of the Word and the joy and peace it brings to my heart. This is not the bible my Gram gave me for my confirmation, it is a special bible just for this artistic journey. Invest in a journaling bible-there are many to choose from, they have an open margin just for artsy expression, then you will feel free to paint, color, draw etc beside the word. Some don't want to cover the words, some do, some are ok covering the words as long as they can still be read-there is no right or wrong as long as your heart is pure and loving-remember, this is your journey!

For this entry I challenged myself to use traditional scrapbooking supplies as my go to. I challenge you to do the same-you will see your next Scraps of Love (I may be a bit prejudiced, but seriously, the absolute best paper arts store in the land!) shopping trip with new eyes-and that is FUN!!!!!

For this entry, created about a year ago, I combined watercolor, doodles and products from Simple Stories You & me collection. I tell the students in my "Let's get Artsy with our Bibles, "we are from all different religions and backgrounds, but we all love art and we all love God, so it's all good!

For this month's entry we are going to be exploring a watercolor painting technique and the fun trend of gold foiling (with a twist, of course!)

day 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 and 41 days of 100

Always on the lookout for a cute banner idea, when I sat beside my friend Christa while she was making a flower banner for her mom-I was inspired! This 2 sided floral beauty is perfect for hanging anyplace that needs a little cuteness on both sides! Mine is hanging in the front window of Scraps of Love along with lots of other red white and blue lovely-ness!!! 

Super easy to create, I started with lots of red white and blue cardstock, Tim Holtz tattered flower die, 3 in 1 adhesive, some bling and a length of bakers twine.

 

Looking for a big impact party decoration with a small price tag? Paper bag stars are the way to go! These too are super easy and quick! Once you make one, you are hooked!

 

Stitches of Love with Ann

Welcome to something brand new at Scraps of Love, a monthly stitching workshop. We will gather together to stitch one of the gorgeous embroidery patterns from Adornit (available for purchase in the store) or a favorite stitching project you are currently working on.  Each month, I will design and share a charming wool applique kit that we can work on together, or you can take home to stitch on your own. Each month’s kit will be a new design on a new banner panel, which in the end, will all work together to create a lovely folky wool applique garland. Bring to class, a favorite embroidery needle, your floss collection, small sharp scissors. Remember this workshop is $10 or free with a $15 purchase.

I like to challenge myself to use a product in a different way-this layout was created using Bo Bunny's Firecracker collection, typically a 4th of July selection, but I thought it was the perfect choice for this photo of Chris' daughters in their turnout/bunker gear. The colors and patterns lent themselves to highlighting the jackets and helmets. Look for this layout in the 4th of July section at Scraps of Love, of course!

 

Each month in my planner workshop I design a fun make and take to share. This month we created tassels with baker's twine and Tim Holtz charms and images. I AM MADLY IN LOVE WITH THIS BEAUTY dangling from my Carpe Diem planner.

days 32, 33, 34 and 35 of 100 days of artsy fun!!!

 I am madly in love with my ADORNit Documented Faith planner-it is the perfect place for me to doodle my way through my journey of faith. Just as Pope Francis, I am working on Mercy. 

 

Using the Esther Stamp from the Prima's Women of the Bible collection-Creating in Faith and the It's good to be Queen stamp from a wonderful lady who attended my last Let's get artsy with our Bibles class at Scraps of Love. 

 

 As you can see, I love creating art on manilla shipping tags, they are perfect little works of art, to use as bookmarks, art journal or bible tip ins, gifts for friends, on a ring of technique tags, you get the idea! I like to find new ways to use the loot in my artsy arsenal-here is a perfect example-I was playing with Ranger Distress stain and one of my favorite art stamps.

 

This technique tag is one from our Customer Appreciation day at Scraps of Love. We sprayed Dylusions ink spray through a Dylusions stencil, next I applied Dylusions paint with my blending tool through another Dylusions stencil. To finish the tag, I stamped some butterflies from a Tim Holtz stamp and tied some vintage seam binding to the top.

For day 29  of my 100 day project, I wanted to share a entry in my art journal that I will be teaching during my art journaling class at Scraps of Love. I try challenged myself to create patterns, layers, and whimsical lettering while maintaining a flat surface. The watercolors I chose were Prima's watercolor confections (tropical). I love this little tin of artist grade highly pigmented watercolor pans. The colors are brilliant!

More watercolor play (with my Prima tropical confection pan set) this time, in my ADORNit documented faith planner. I love experimenting with techniques and products! I used ADORNit's Month titles clear stickers (lettered by the uber talented Lindsay Ostrom) I also used Simple Stories Carpe Diem number stickers.

For June's Bible Journaling class I am going to be highlighting Bella Blvd's Illustrated Faith products and Dylusions acrylic paint. I wanted to choose a verse that featured blossom/flowers/bloom and I found the perfect one that spoke to me-Isaiah 35:2

Notice I am on a huge swirly flower kick lately!

I had so much fun painting something just for fun! I thought it would be super cool to use a page from a vintage ledger as my 'canvas' -LOVE IT! Don't you love how you can see that captured work product from so long ago, through my watercolor flowers!!!???!!! Mixing old and new is SO SO SO much fun! Give it a try!

First up, day 24 of 100, a cute card I created for a Scraps of Love make and take featuring Queen & Co's stick-ems and Doodlebug patterned paper.

I also used my We R envelope punch to create the patterned paper bows!

Day 25 of 100 

Awesome you greeting card featuring Sizzix' Framelits flip-its die by Stephanie Barnard and Jillibean Soup's Hello Healthy Soup collection (patterned paper and pea pod parts) and Adhesive sequins. Originally meant to hold a gift card, I wanted to challenge myself to create a bunch of cards with this die and no-gift cards! So without further adieu here is the next one!

Dream Big greeting card featuring Jillibean Soup's Mushroom Medley collection (patterned paper and pea pod parts) and Adhesive sequins. I popped a few of the mushrooms with foam tape to add dimension.

I pledge allegiance greeting card featuring Pebbles 'America the Beautiful' collection and Queen & Co Red Dotties.

Day 21  of 100 in  my #100dayproject 

SWEET banner featuring WeR Memory Keepers 'Flower Girl' collection, 123 Punch Board,  Alphabet Punch Board,  and Jillibean Soup Party Playground Fringe Garland, Xyron adhesive and Bazzill cardstock.  This was my first attempt at using the Alphabet Punch board and I loved it! I cut all of the letters for this banner from one 12x12 sheet of black cardstock-how cool is that! Ironically, this darling macaron inspired patterned paper is named 'Sweets'! I punched bows from the Macaron paper with the 123 punch board-super simple, easy and quick! Scraps of Love is full of little treasures-like this fringe garland from Jillibean Soup, I LOVE the texture and party feel it adds to my banner-find it in the birthday section of the store (in other colors too!!!) 

day 22 of 100 of my #100dayproject journey-Remember last week when I said I had a bunch of bears on bikes pieces left over from my PhotoPlay Paper Father's Day banner-well, here is what I did with them! I am a very thrifty paper artist-I don't like to waste anything cute! 

I had cut apart all of the bears on bikes from one sheet of 12x12 paper-I think in the end I had about 37 pieces. I inked the edges of each piece with Ranger Distress ink (Walnut Stain). I brought them all to my sewing machine and stitched them onto a length of vintage seam binding. Taa Daa!!! I will be adding this banner to the Father's Day banner, above the masculine section of Scraps of Love-come on in, all of the loot is available for you to make your own! I'll even help you put yours together!

Day 23 of 100 of my #100dayproject journey-July monthly divider from my ADORNit Documented Faith Art Play Planner. I am in LOVE with this project! I use mine as my place to document my spiritual journey and my get my coloring fix in daily! I have been experimenting with so many different coloring techniques and products and having an absolute blast in doing so! This particular divider was done with Reeves watercolor pencils and a waterbrush-a pretty simple, straight forward coloring endeavor. But isn't it funny, even as I look at the photo of this project as I write this post-I see more and more I can do to it! Be on the lookout for an update!
