As you know, I LOVE the art of sending happiness through the mail! I so enjoy the entire process of creating a little work of art especially for a special someone, in hopes of brightening their day! I created this piece for my fantastic nephew Seth-he is a creative soul and I love to encourage his creative mind, every chance I get. He lives far away, so besides text messages, the good old US Postal Service is one of the best ways for us to stay connected. He also, is a musician, so I just knew I wanted to create something fun using this 'Mix Tape' stencil from The Crafter's Workshop! Who else is reminded of simplier times, when boys painstakingly listened to the radio, starting and stopping their cassette recorders at just the right moment, creating the perfect musical medley for that special girl!?! I still have mine, and look back so fondly on the memory of those sweet boys, how about you? Any way, I digress-I gessoed a manilla envelope then started the process of layering just the right amounts of Faber Castell gelatos and Dina Wakely's heavy body acrylic paint. Once the perfect background was acheived, I laid down the 'Mix Tape' stencil and sprayed it with Ranger Distress Spray Stain (black soot). My amazingly talented friend, Keely, carved these fantastic letter stamps for me-they are the perfect amount of bold for such a colorful base-so I stamped his name with them and some black archival ink. I always get a little nervous before sending a piece of mail art, plagued with doubting thoughts of 'will the post office process it? can they read the address, will it arrive to it's intended destination, will the reciepient love receivin it as much as I loved creating it? Well, I am happy to report that I can answer yes to all of the above! It all makes my heart SO happy! I love the art of mail art so much! I am doing my best to spread the artsy word by teaching a mail art workshop aptly named GOING POSTAL at the amazing Scrapbook Barn, Saturday February 21, 2015 from 3-5pm, give Melissa or Melody a call at 480-503-2475 to reserve your spot!
