You know when you have an artsy idea in your noggin, I mean a really really amazing idea!?! Well, this canvas has been rolling around in my consciousness for a few months. My artsy muse was Pharrel's Happy lyrics. I had this big canvas (25'x25') in my stash. I had the perfect blank wall in my newly remodeled grey and yellow downstairs bath, and lots of cool ephemera (cool loot)-the perfect combination! I started it and it looked like this for a while (because life got in the way of my creative process-don't you hate when that happens :))
I just love the process of mixed media art-with each little paper treasure I added, I was filled with the memory of where they were aquired or what they represented. Some of the cigar bands came from a junque trip with my girlfriends to Canton, Texas and some from another friend who works in a cigar shop. The bookplate is from my daughters desk. Assorted tickets from a fantastic estate sale. Tim Holtz tissue tape. Bo Bunny 'The Avenues' patterned paper. You get the idea. It all makes me so happy!
I added more patterned paper, Hazel & Ruby tissue paper, and of course, paint!
The Crafter's Workshop has some of the most amazing stencils around! One of my favorites is called 'Well Rounded' I think I might have used all 9 designs on this canvas! It is like magic when you scrap modeling paste over a stencil, then peel it back! I used Hazel and Ruby's Chalk Art Alphabet stencil mask for 'Choose Happy'-they absolutely have secured their place in my artsy arsenal!
I printed out the song lyrics, cut them apart and adhered them to the left side of the canvas and then in between the modeling paste 'sunrays' that radiate out from the title. I then added Jenni Bowlin rub on's for even more 'sunrays'. I used Faber Castell's PITT pastel pencils to add shadow and depth to 'Choose Happy'. The final step was to stamp randomly with Hero Arts Old Letter Writing stamp and Archival Ink (jet black)
