so, what is going on in your life that you can switch the focus on? it is truly an amazing phenomenon. try it and let me know what you experience. this was a really small thing, but it had a big impact on me.
last thursday evening as i am getting ready to go down to the phoenix scrapbook convention-this is what i saw as i stepped out the door-of course i had to take a picture or two-it was super crazy-the sky went from blue to tan in seconds. dust storms are tremendous things to watch-you can see them coming-like a giant traveling wall of dust-then they are gone. mother nature, she is amazing!
it was fun to see my family hanging in the rusty pickle booth-and to think that it travels all over the country-super cool!
manners-something that has been on my mind a bit lately-simple things, social graces-please and thank you, excuse me, may i ask who is calling. the simple act of introducing yourself, or a friend to a new person. i am amazed by the lack of these simple acts-and i know you are thinking that i am talking about children-but i am not. i have observed adults who either do not know any better or choose not to use their manners-i think it is really a pretty sad state of affairs. i feel that this speaks to a person's character. i tell miranda often, you will never be embarrassed by using your manners, but i can guarantee that you will be horribly embarrassed by bad manners. i am not professing to be miss manners, but i must say that i do try awful hard to implement them in my day to day life.
so remember what your mother taught you-
use your manners-people notice!
miranda and dwayne are the most amazing kiddos eva! they are both carrying pretty heavy loads between school and extra curricular activities and they are handling it with a remarkable amount of grace considering they are only 14. i am so very proud of them-i can see their strong sense of self and their born leadership skills more and more lately. i am so very proud!

do you ever find yourself in the middle of a event, a event that you have been looking forward to for a very long time, and then it is kind of like you just, stop, and have a moment-a moment of sweet realization.
i had such a moment this past weekend. i attended creative escape for the 2nd year in a row. it really is the ultimate scrapbooking indulgence. the weekend is filled with amazing projects, fantastic teachers who are so very excited to share their artwork and themselves, volunteers who work tirelessly to assist the teachers and staff in countless ways, all of the entire staff that has planned this magnificent event to the last detail - you can literally feel that they put their hearts and souls into it.
and then there are the attendees, there wouldn't really be an event if scrapbookers from around the world didn't trust heidi swapp . you can't just sign up to attend this event-you have to be lucky enough to have your name be one of the 650 spots chosen of the thousands who entered the lottery from around the world, and then you have to pay for it!
so anyway, on the final night, as i am sitting at my table waiting for the closing stuff to begin, i looked around the room and was struck by this thought. scrapbooking is the great equalizer. the room was filled with people from every walk of life you can think of, and although like in any large group, we may share differing political views, varying religious beliefs, have different levels of yearly income-none of that mattered-we all share this common bond. i looked around at all of those faces in the room and although i had seen them throughout the weekends event, this time, it seemed like i was seeing them thru new eyes. simply amazing!
i have experienced these moments before and have even shared some of them here on this blog-each time i do-it feels so great.
so here's to more amazing "moments" in my future and yours!
our action packed evening was filled with volleyball, football, family and lots of pride! aunt dee joined geoff and i as we raced from one high school to another. miranda played like a rock star and her team soundly beat their opponent, that makes 2 wins for this new team-rock on! dwayne's high school football career is off to a tremendous start! he was simply amazing! and his team too, won by a landslide-38-6!
both of these kiddos are not just great athletes, they are the most fantastic kids-we are just bursting!
rock the bump, miranda!
dwayne is the one with the football!
